Genealogy Evidence Agent

What the assistant can answer, what backs each answer, and what it will not conclude.

What it is

The Genealogy Evidence Agent is the research assistant in the sidebar and on the tree's chat page. Each conversation is one line of inquiry against one of your trees, kept as a thread you can return to. It is the only name this assistant has.

What you can ask

Ask about a DNA anchor and who it might be, whether a Y-DNA match really sits on your paternal line, which sources support a birth year, what contradicts itself in a branch, or what the parentage assessments say. The prompt suggestions you are offered are not decoration: each one corresponds to a tool the assistant actually has, so a question it cannot answer with evidence is not suggested in the first place.

How answers are backed

Every answer streams in live and is backed by a tool result with citation footnotes; nothing is paraphrased from general knowledge. References such as "my grandmother" are resolved against the ROOT person of the tree, so a tree with no ROOT gets a plain statement that the anchor is missing rather than a guess.

What it will not do

It does not search outside archives for you and it does not answer free-form questions about a surname or a place across your whole tree - there is no tool behind either, and an answer without a tool behind it would be invention. It also will not name a relationship the evidence does not support. "There is not enough evidence yet" is a correct answer, and you will get it.

Which plans include it

The tree assistant is part of Pro and Premium: asking questions about your tree in plain language runs a language model, and that has a real cost per answer. Your tree, the GEDCOM Doctor and the Anti-Fantasy audit stay available on Free.
