What AutoTreeGen is
It reads your tree, scores every relationship by the evidence behind it, flags conflicts and duplicates, and shows the sources for each claim. A link counts as confirmed only when independent sources agree; until they do, it stays marked as unproven. A repeated online tree, a hint, or a matching surname is not proof on its own, and "we do not know yet" is a valid research result that the system is built to record.
Start a tree
You can start a tree and then bring a GEDCOM into it, or upload a GEDCOM straight away and let the import create the tree for you. Most people start from a file they already have.
Open:Create a tree
Upload a GEDCOM
Pick a .ged or .gedcom file. The jobs page then shows the stage the file is at and how much of it has been read. A large file takes real time: the tree reads "not indexed yet" until indexing finishes, and the checks only have something to measure once it has.
We read your file exactly as it is and tell you what is inside - before importing.
Open:Upload GEDCOM
Set your ROOT person
ROOT is the person a tree opens on. Open any person in the tree and use Set as ROOT; the current ROOT shows a small root mark instead of the button. ROOT belongs to one tree, so each tree has its own. It is not the same as who you are in the tree, which the next section covers.
Tell the tree who you are
Two people anchor a tree, and they are not the same setting. ROOT is the person the tree opens on; Set as ROOT on any person changes it, and nothing else. The setting Who you are in this tree names the person relationship labels, DNA kit linking, the lineage ribbons and the assistant measure from. You choose it once during onboarding and can change it in the tree's settings. When that person is not set, the platform falls back to ROOT and says so.
Run your first analysis
The tree you are working on carries a Run analysis action on the dashboard. The run produces findings for you to review - it does not merge, delete or rewrite people on its own. That decision stays yours everywhere in the product.
Open:Dashboard
Read your dashboard
The health panel carries Overall health, Source coverage, Duplicate scan, Fantasy scan, Archive hints and your DNA kits. Each one is allowed three honest states: it is being measured, it has not been run yet, or it could not be read. A metric that has not run is not a clean result. And the grade itself is a measure of completeness, not proof of accuracy.
Where to go next
Review duplicates and conflicts, attach sources to the claims that matter to you, then add DNA if you have it. When you want a question answered against your own tree, the Genealogy Evidence Agent is in the sidebar.
