Account and billing

Plans, your consents, exporting everything you have, and deleting a tree or an account.

Plans

There are four plans: Free, Starter, Pro and Premium. Free gives you one tree, the GEDCOM Doctor and the Anti-Fantasy detector, with no card. Starter adds one DNA kit, your match list and Community evidence search. Pro and Premium add full DNA, clusters, the advanced engines and the assistant, and raise how many trees you may keep. Free and Starter accept a tree as large as Pro does; above 20,000 people they import and run the core only, and hypotheses, the Evidence Graph and research reports for that tree run on Pro. Prices, tree counts and the exact person caps are on the Pricing page, which is where they are set.

Billing, upgrades and cancellation

Billing and plan shows the plan you are on now, what it includes and when it renews, and it is where you change plan or cancel. Card payments are processed securely by Stripe; PayPal is a separate one-time option, described below.

Paying with PayPal

Prefer PayPal over a card? On the checkout page, below the plan cards, there is a "Pay with PayPal" section with one button per plan and billing period. It pays the plan's price to AutoTreeGen's PayPal account. This is a one-time payment, not an automatic subscription: the plan is switched on by hand once we see the payment, and your dashboard shows it once active. It is not offered once you already have an active card subscription, to avoid a double charge.

Your consents

Consent is recorded per upload, not once for the account: a DNA file is accepted under a consent that says whether it is your own kit or one you are authorised to manage. Your consents page lists what is on record and lets you withdraw a consent.

The emails we send

A welcome email when you join, and another when a Starter, Pro or Premium plan starts. A note when an import finishes or could not be finished. An email when a data export is ready, with the decryption key in a separate message. An invitation when someone shares a tree with you. A warning when a payment fails, and a line when a subscription changes. A greeting on a birthday you recorded for yourself. A confirmation when an account has been erased. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link; the link only shows which address it is for, and unsubscribes when you press the button. Which notifications reach your inbox is set on the Notifications page.

Profile and sessions

Settings holds your display name, language and time zone, and the list of devices signed in to your account, each of which you can sign out. Changing the language changes the interface; it does not translate the names in your tree.

Taking your data out

Data export, under your account, composes a complete copy of everything you hold here, as an encrypted archive. It takes up to thirty minutes; the download link is valid for seven days and the decryption key arrives in a separate email. Your original GEDCOM and the tree as it stands now can also be downloaded from the tree itself at any time.

Deleting a tree or your account

A tree is deleted from its menu on the dashboard, and it is erased for good right away; it cannot be undone. Deleting a tree leaves your account and your DNA kits in place. Erasing the account, from the account page, erases your DNA kits and uploaded files right away, signs you out and removes your trees and people from the site. It cannot be undone either, so export first if you want a copy.

Who can see your data

Your trees are private by default. They are never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to train AI models. A tree becomes visible to someone else only when you share it - by inviting a person to it, or by creating a public link, both of which you can revoke. Access to DNA is narrower still and is governed by the consent recorded for each upload. The privacy notice and the terms of service state this in full.
