Endogamy
In endogamous communities - Ashkenazi, Mennonite, Acadian, island and village populations - people are related through several lines at once. Shared centimorgans then overstate closeness, many small segments reflect several ancestral routes rather than one, shared matches turn up across branches that are genuinely separate, and the usual relationship calculators mislead. The product keeps the possible paths open instead of naming one.
Shared DNA suggests how you might be related - but in endogamous families it makes relatives look closer than they are.
