What we accept, how a kit is linked to a person, what matches and clusters mean, and where the limits are.

Does the paper line agree with the DNA

For any ancestor the platform can check the direct male line (Y-DNA) and the direct female line (mtDNA). It looks for your kits whose testers sit on that line in the tree and compares their haplogroups. Two or more kits with compatible haplogroups mean the line is consistent. Two confirmed kits that disagree mean the paper line is broken somewhere between them, and both kits are named. One kit, chip predictions only, or no kit on the line give no verdict, and the reason is said. A haplogroup copied down the tree from another person's kit never counts as a second witness.
