Linking a kit to a person
A kit is data until it is attached to a person in a tree; after that the analysis knows whose genome it is looking at and where that person sits. Only someone born recently enough to have tested can hold a kit, so people born long before DNA testing existed are not offered as candidates.
The same person often appears under different names on different platforms - or one account manages several kits.
